Stonnington Council announcment on UDF!

Interesting developments regarding developments.

This now appears on the Council website:

“A report is being prepared for Council to outline an extensive stakeholder engagement strategy to ensure all interested parties and the community can participate in this process from the earliest stage. Council has committed to actively engage with the community on the future development of this site.

The Urban Design Framework provides development guidelines in regard to height, bulk, amenity and public spaces. The City of Stonnington may seek to incorporate the Framework in the Planning Scheme as part of a formal statutory process including further public consultation.

This would mean that any developer would be obliged to take the Framework into account with respect to new development proposals.”

Why does the word “may” appear in the second paragraph?

Council is establishing a good and helpful process. Council rejected the excessive plans of the developments to develop too many high rise blocks at excessive heights. In doing so the campaign to Fight the Towers scored a resounding success. We won a battle, not a war. As commented previously, some form of development plan is likely to succeed in the future and residents in the area should be engaged in participating in discussions concerning the Urban Design Framework.
