School? What school?

590 Orrong Road

A school would allow us to have our donut and eat it too.

Pre-election Clem Newton-Brown (now of course the Member for Prahran) announced that if elected the coalition government would fund a feasibility study into a new state school for Stonnington. Many parents with limited and / or expensive school options are keen for an update and have asked us if we know what’s happening. We don’t, so we’ll contact Clem for an update and report our findings here.

Schools are low-rise, empty on evenings, weekends and (endless) holidays. Whether you are kidful or kidless; think of what a nearby, high-quality state school would do for the value of your property. Ask friends in Balwyn or McKinnon about their happy experiences. As Homer Simpson might say.  “Mmmmmm. Home value appeciation.”

So, why haven’t we seen a School for Stonnington campaign?

The Liberal Coalition pledged $200 000 in this term of Government to investigate the feasibility of a new State high school in Prahran. Since my election I have been pursuing preparatory works for this study, investigating potential sites (both private and Crown land).

I have had discussions with the owners of the “Orrong Towers” site as well as Stonnington Council. Ideally I think we need to find somewhere adjacent to parkland (all suggestions welcome!).

Once a shortlist of viable sites is compiled then I would expect funds will be allocated in the budget to commence the study (most likely next year I would have thought).

Any queries or suggestions please contact me at clem.newton-brown@parliamnet.vic.gov.au or Tel 99819501

    regards,
    Clem Newton-Brown
