Having been involved with community reaction to the Banco Development in Smith Street/Little Oxford Street, Collingwood this outcome does not surprise me. We had 1500 objections which counted for nothing. After the minister approved the development Banco then successfully applied to amend the approved plans to reinstate the original plans (approximately) which meant that the original community opposition had achieved nothing. Unless the law is changed councils and communities in Melbourne have very little, if any say in the development of our city.
