Sign up to tell Clem: 590 Orrong Road is the right site for a school.

A new secondary school is coming to Stonnington. But where?

How long until kids become easy targets?

The current favoured site is the former Swinburne TAFE building (recently bought by NMIT North Melbourne Institute of TAFE) near the corner of Chapel and Highs Streets – an area known for bars, nightclubs, begging, graffiti, street crime and sclerotic traffic. Now our representatives think it’s OK to squeeze a high-rise, concrete school on the site. The NMIT is location is more than unsuitable for our kids, it’s plainly unsafe. That’s why we’ve launched an online petition for you to sign.

590 Orrong Road Armadale, ideally located between Toorak Station and Orrong Romanis Reserve is the obvious choice. It’s close to public transport, large sports facilities, parklands, is in a super safe, secure area with zero state secondary school options and overflowing primary schools.  State schools in Balwyn, McKinnon and Albert Park have become major drawcards – this school could rival them all and benefit everyone.

Orrong Group has decided to promote this idea. If you agree head to Change.org and sign our petition. It’ll take 2m.

Sign here. Then spread the word.

Here’s how to make this petition thing really take off:

  • have everyone in your family who agrees that 590 is the right site to sign the petition individually;
  • once you sign, spend a minute to share the petition with others;
  • tell people who might care to sign about the petition;
  • ask members of your family who do not agree that 590 is the right site to find alternative lodging.
